On Friday, November 18th, 2022, Sub Pop will release the astonishing new Weyes Blood full-length And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow. The album’s ten tracks were written by Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering, with album production from Mering along with Jonathan Rado on all songs except for “A Given Thing,” produced by Mering and Rodaidh McDonald. And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow was mixed by Kenny Gilmore at 101 Studio, mastered by Emily Lazar and Chris Allgood at The Lodge, and features guest appearances from Meg Duffy, Daniel Lopatin, and Mary Lattimore.
The album is her follow-up to the acclaimed Titanic Rising, the first album of three in a special trilogy. Where Titanic was an observation of doom to come, And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow is about being in the thick of it: a search for an escape hatch to liberate us from algorithms and ideological chaos (spoiler alert: the next one will be about “hope”). “We’re in a fully functional shit show,” Mering says. “My heart is a glow stick that’s been cracked, lighting up my chest in an explosion of earnestness.”
The new album’s first single, “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody,” is about the interconnectivity of all beings, but also the fraying of society around us.
And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow will be available on CD/LP/CS/DSPs, and can be preordered now from Sub Pop. In North America, LP preorders through megamart.subpop.com, select independent retailers, and Weyes Blood’s official website will receive the limited Loser Edition on translucent purple vinyl. Meanwhile, preorders of the LP at select independent retailers in the UK and EU will receive the Loser Edition on clear vinyl (both Loser Edition options available while supplies last).

Today, Monday, September 12th sees the release of two, very awesome METZ tracks on all DSPs: “Come On Down,” the new track featuring Joe Talbot of IDLES, along with the previously unreleased “Heaven’s Gate,” originally available only in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, released in 2020.
Of the “Come On Down” single and collaboration, METZ’s Alex Edkins offers this, “‘Come On Down’ was originally recorded during the Atlas Vending sessions but never fully finished. During the pandemic I really gravitated towards the idea of collaboration as a way to fill the void left by the loss of live music. I reached out to friends from far and wide in order to get that feeling of community that gigs provide. Joe Talbot (IDLES) is a longtime friend who METZ has shared the stage with many, many times, and this song was a very natural and fun way to catch up with him and do something positive with our time off the road.”
Joe Talbot had this to say, “METZ have been a band we’ve looked up to since they came into our lives and made things better. I will never forget the first time I saw them or any of the other times. Allowing me to sing with them is a gift and I hope you like it. I love it and I love them. Long live METZ.”
Watch the fiery, fully-feathered Bass Tone directed video for “Come On Down” now.
This fall, METZ will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their massively acclaimed self-titled Sub Pop debut with a series of North American shows where they will play the album in its entirety. “The 10 Years Anniversary Tour” will span two legs, the first starting October 13th in Toronto at The Opera House with stops in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Hamden, Philadelphia, Durham, Birmingham, Atlanta, and Denton, and the second beginning December 7th in Phoenix and taking them through Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Portland, St. Paul, and Chicago. Preceding these shows is a performance on Saturday, October 1st at Livewire’s 30th Anniversary Show at The Mississippi Room at The Lafayette Hotel in San Diego. Multitalented British vocalist and songwriter Suki Waterhouse shares a new song today, “Nostalgia,” co-written and produced by John Mark Nelson—listen here and watch the lyric video here.
“The song is about the romance of missing the idea of something, someone,” Waterhouse says. “In isolation, I found myself giving into the temptation to reminisce. To steep in nostalgia is to escape the now, to give in to the beauty of an illusion.”
“Nostalgia” is Suki’s first new music since her debut album, I Can’t Let Go, was released to critical acclaim in May via Sub Pop Records—get it here. The albumwas executive produced by Grammy-nominated Brad Cook (The War On Drugs, Bon Iver) and features previously released singles “Moves,” “My Mind” and “Melrose Meltdown.”
Additionally, she recently shared two new versions of her viral song, “Good Looking”—listen to the strippped version here and the remix by Canadian producer BLOND:ISHhere. The original version of the track, which went viral on TikTok and peaked at #1 on Spotify’s Viral USA Chart, continues to accumulate more than 700 thousand streams daily across Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music.
Suki is currently on tour in North American with Father John Misty in support of her debut album, with stops at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater, Los Angeles’ Holllywood Forever Cemetery, New York’s Radio City Music Hall and more—see full routing below and get tickets here.
Growing up in London, multi-talented actress, model and musician Suki Waterhouse gravitated toward music at an early age, finding inspiration in the likes of Alanis Morisette, Missy Elliott, Oasis and more. She initially teased her pivot to music with a series of singles, generating nearly 20 million total streams independently, with critical acclaim from NYLON, DUJOUR, Lemonade Magazine and more.
The unholy union of Weird Nightmare and Ancient Shapes brings you the double A-Side experience of the year! “I Think You Know” w/ “Bird With an Iron Head” delivers two sides of sing-along power-punk you need to hear to believe.
The pairing, which will be available in physical form by way of a bright red-colored 7” single on Friday, October 21st, features Weird Nightmare’s “I Think You Know” on side A, and Ancient Shapes’ 3-part suite “Bird With an Iron Head” (+official video), ”Imaginary Agony”, and “I’m Against the Wind” on side AA. All four songs are also available digitally today on all DSPs from Sub Pop.
Weird Nightmare’s Alex Edkins says of the union, “Daniel has been one of my favorite writers/performers for many years now and his work with Ancient Shapes and the Outfit are a constant source of joy. I’m super excited to be sharing this record with him.”
Weird Nightmare released his electrifying, self-titled debut featuring the no nonsense rock n’ roll of “Searching For You,” and the anthemic “Lusitania,” earlier this summer on Sub Pop. The album showcases a new side of Edkins’ already-established songwriting (METZ), with a raw, sugary blast of distorted pop. It exhibits all of his main band’s bite with an unexpected, yet totally satisfying, sweetness. Imagine The Amps covering Big Star, or the gloriously hissy miniature epics of classic-era Guided by Voices combined with the bombast of Copper Blue-era Sugar—just tons of red-line distortion cut with the type of tunecraft that thrills the moment it hits your ears. “I Think You Know” comes from the same intense burst of songwriting that spawned the Weird Nightmare LP and delivers yet another ear-worm of high-energy hooky song craft.
Ancient Shapes was spawned in 2015 as a recording side project of the wondrously prolific and shape-shifting renaissance man, Daniel Romano. Due to the ravenous demand for live performances of these first recordings, Daniel brought on David Nardi, Vee Bell, Roddy Rosetti and Ian Romano to take the songs to the people. The live band has been called “the best band since computers” and also “incredibly good as hell.” The group has since traveled the world over and have released the Ancient Shapes, Silent Rave, and A Flower That Wouldn’t Bloom albums.
Weird Nightmare and Ancient Shapes will play a short run of Canadian shows together beginning November 17th in Hamilton, ON at Casbah and ending November 19th in St Catherines, ON at Warhorse.
Weird Nightmare will also be main support for Archers of Loaf’s east coast shows (select dates) beginning Tuesday, November 29th in Baltimore at Ottobar and ending Friday, December 2nd in Brooklyn at Warsaw. Please find a current list of Weird Nightmare shows below.

In the UK, and in EU, the Loser edition is available on clear coke bottle vinyl (both while supplies last).
Naima Bock’s “Campervan,” is a single and official video from Giant Palm, her acclaimed debut. The song, which Stereogum calls “expansive and lovely,” is now the subject of this live performance by Naima, violinist Oliver Hamilton, and the Institute Collective contemporary vocal ensemble. Filmed at Waverley House in Margate, a small seaside town in the Southeast coast of England, it’s an absolutely exquisite presentation of the song. Watch now.
The Institute Collective was founded by composer, producer and vocal arranger Hughie Gavin, and is a collective of artists in their own right who come together to collaborate and perform with other musicians. Gavin offers this on the performance, “I loved arranging ‘Campervan’ as the song has such a natural ebb and flow. I tried to make sure the voices followed that movement, rising and falling throughout. I also wanted to be true to the song’s clear contrasting sections. As well as the part itself, how the choir sung was really important, from the airy builds in the verses to the almost raucous chorus refrain.”
Naima says of the performance, “It was a real pleasure to work with the Institute Collective, we had a beautiful day meeting all of the singers, arrangers and crew. There was a very special energy whilst filming and the more we sang together the better it got. I’m delighted to release this video and to have worked with such a talented bunch”.
Naima Bock’s international tour schedule in support of Giant Palm resumes Friday, September 2nd at The End of the Road festival in Dorset, UK, and currently run through Thursday, October 27th in London at ICA. A US tour announcement will be made soon. Please find a current list of dates below and on naimabock.com.

Naima Bock’s Giant Palm and its singles, saw praise from the likes of Brooklyn Vegan (“Album of the Week, Indie Basement”), CLASH, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Loud & Quiet, MOJO, New York Times, Our Culture, The Quietus, Stereogum (“Album of the Week”), The Times of London, Uncut, and more.
Recently, Pitchfork included the album in its “34 Great Records You May Have Missed, Spring/Summer,” and said, “Naima Bock has been unraveling her own heritage and weaving it into something new. Bock spent her early childhood in Brazil before relocating to South-East London, and on her solo debut Giant Palm, she braids together bucolic English folk, fluttering Tropicalia, and elements of ’60s psych rock. With the help of producer and arranger Joel Burton, she enlisted over 30 musicians to record on Giant Palm. The cohort’s contributions add a delightful strangeness to the album: Bent saxophone, jazz flute, and strings wrap around Bock’s hazy voice, suggesting some mystical, askew idyll.”
What People Are Saying About Naima Bock’s Giant Palm: “Exquisite solo debut” - ★★★★ MOJO
“Quiet, melancholy and occasionally divinely uplifting (8/10)” - Uncut
“Hugely ambitious - the individual pieces are delicately arranged, the end product solid as steel” [ “Music of the Month”] - The Quietus
“A real gem…[it’s] cinematic and spectral; it makes one contemplate things like energy flows and meditation and the long arc of history.” [“Album of the Week”] - Stereogum
“Giant Palm, is quietly dazzling, drawing from a wide range of influences including ’70s British folk, jazz, and Tropicalia.” [“Album of the Week, Indie Basement”] - Brooklyn Vegan
“This album has an unforced charm, making it an ideal accompaniment to long summer nights” ★★★★- The Times of London
“Naima Bock’s ‘Giant Palm’ is - frankly - exquisite. A truly special listen” - CLASH
“Steady and calming, intimate and revelatory, sporadically startling - it’s a record as unique as Bock’s history (8/10)” - Loud and Quiet
“As a debut, Giant Palm situates itself in a specific tradition without being constrained by convention - finding a voice in ten tracks that occupy their own lifeforce, almost set in motion by the elements.” ★★★★ - DIY
“Giant Palm is a stellar debut and one of 2022’s more distinct releases (8/10)” - The Line of Best Fit
“Though she took a roundabout path to make and release Giant Palm, the way Bock shares her profound moments and little insights with a generous spirit makes for an often brilliant debut.” ★★★★ - All Music
“There’s a bit of ’70s Brian Eno in her vocal delivery and an echo of John Cale in her arrangements, but the fusion of her disparate cultural influences makes for an enchanting sound entirely Bock’s own.” [“Giant Palm”] - New York Times
A morning trip to the corner coffee spot becomes disorienting and hairy in the new Frankie Cosmos video for “Aftershook,” from filmmaker Andy Rose Fidoten. The song is from Inner World Peace, the group’s forthcoming new album.
Greta offers this on the song, “‘Aftershook’ is about processing the past, and grappling with maintaining a balanced ratio of emotional awareness and hopefulness. The clown represents my fear of growing up into the kind of stunted adult that toxically influenced my youth.”
As for the “Aftershook” video, Greta says, “Lauren had the basic idea for this music video, and we liked it for this song because it has a sort of spooky vibe to it. I love where Andy and their team took it because it feels like it’s about grappling with one’s sense of self/reality, and searching for one’s place in the world/community.”
Frankie Cosmos will release Inner World Peace, their fifth album, on October 21st, 2022 on CD/LP/CS/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop. The album, which features the aforementioned “Aftershook,” along with standouts “One Year Stand,” “F.O.O.F.”, and “Empty Head,” was co-produced by Frankie Cosmos, Nate Mendelsohn, and Katie Von Schleicher at Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn, New York, mixed by Mendelsohn and Von Schleicher, and mastered by Josh Bonati at Bonati Mastering. The Inner World Peace album art also features illustrations from band member Lauren Martin.
Earlier this month, Inner World Peace’s first single “One Year Stand” saw praise from the likes of PAPER (“Minimal and impressionistic — a collection of small features that coalesce into a vivid landscape.”), Stereogum (“soft and sad and sweet”), Brooklyn Vegan (“Instrumentally understated, with cheeky and sweet lyrics”), Uproxx (“patient and lush”) and Consequence (“dreamy”).
Inner World Peace is available for preorder now from Sub Pop. LP preorders from megamart.subpop.com, select independent retailers in North America, the UK and Europe, will receive the album on crystal clear vinyl (while supplies last).
Also available now with LPs preorders is a new limited edition Frankie Cosmos Zine, compiled by Greta Kline. It will include the first three issues of the Zine, bound together and will come with the first 400 Loser LPs of Inner World Peace pre-ordered on the Sub Pop Mega Mart.
Greta says of the zine, “You may not have heard of this zine if you aren’t on our mailing list, but I’ve been handmaking these and producing them in small batches, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to print and share more of them.”
Frankie Cosmos has scheduled an Inner World Peace release show in Queens NY on October 7th 2022 at Knockdown Center’s The Ruins. Hannah Jadagu and Ian Sweet will be opening.
