The Brunettes Structure and Cosmetics
The Brunettes Structure and Cosmetics
Release Date August 7, 2007
Catalog No SP712
With their Sub Pop debut, Structure and Cosmetics, New Zealand natives The Brunettes see their first release on a US label (previous records were released on their homeland’s Lil’ Chief Records). Fronted and formed by Jonathan Bree (vocals, guitar) and Heather Mansfield (vocals, keys, glock), the band was born in 1998 out of a garage-infused Auckland scene, and they’ve been making breezy, effervescent, Shangri-Las-reminiscent pop ever since. Structure and Cosmetics retains the sweetly charming, sunbeam-drenched sound The Brunettes are known for as evident in the sha-la-la chorus of “If You Were Alien,” but adds a hint of darkness and drama in tracks like “Wall Poster Star.” Since landing the opening slot for The Shins’ five-week US tour in 2005, The Brunettes have played shows with fellow pop darlings Rilo Kiley, The Postal Service and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. With the release of the new record, they’re coming back for more US touring, to steal our hearts and prove that blondes don’t have more fun!
