Omni will release their Sub Pop debut Networker on November 1st. The albums 11 tracks were written between tours and a handful of studio sessions, allowing Omni’s Frankie Broyles and Philip Frobos to push their songwriting boundaries while keeping the stage in mind, designing songs to enhance their tight, energetic performances.
On the band’s latest offering, “Courtesy Call,” Omni successfully ride the line of being able to pleasantly reference influences without mimicking. They venture into experimental Haruomi Hosono territory while still managing to sound like Thin Lizzy. Flood premiered the band’s new video for the track today, and you can also listen on repeat via Spotify - Apple Music - Bandcamp.
Omni has announced a December run beginning on Dec. 03rd in New Orleans, with shows in Austin, Tucson, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Cartel Madras (aka Eboshi and Contra) is sharing the official video for “Goonda Gold” the duo’s new single, directed by Bhaveek Makan and Jashan Makan (see CLASH premiere October 7th).
The “Goonda Gold” video integrates the Desi influence in the track, compelling visuals, and the fashion of the Goondas. There is tension throughout the video, but at the heart of the song, it is an anthemic party track.
Eboshi says of the “Goonda Gold” video, “This is a song for the underdog. We are two queer, POC rappers that are actively creating space for ourselves and other artists like us. ‘Goonda Gold’ announces itself and demands your attention. We wanted a video that was true to the nature and the sound of the ‘Goonda.’ We wanted to convey how our audiences feel when they hear this song. ‘Goonda Gold’ captures the danger and excitement of Cartel Madras.” And Contra adds this, “We’ve always imagined the Goonda as someone from different walks of life moving through the world fiercely, readying themselves for a fight. Gold chains on, cut lip; this song is for the baddies.”
The “Goonda Gold” single is available now at all DSPs worldwide through Sub Pop with the exception of Canada through Royal Mountain Records. The track is from Age of The Goonda, the duo’s forthcoming EP, out November 1st, 2019.

The “Blood of the Fang” visual is inspired by a photo of Huey Newton — co-founder of The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense — hand-cuffed to a hospital gurney while being treated for a gunshot wound in the abdomen after a gun battle with Oakland police in October 1967.
The song itself is built around a sample from Sam Waymon’s score to the 1973 experimental vampire film Ganja & Hess. Daveed Diggs’s lyrics conjure an alternate history of black political struggle in the 1960s and 70s, name-dropping radical activists and reimagining them as a pantheon of undead superheroes fighting against systems of oppression.
Clipping recently announced their first headlining shows in nearly 3 years: October 8th-November 16th (see dates below), the band will perform in support of their new album, There Existed an Addiction to Blood, out October 18th on CD, 2xLP, cassette, and a limited-edition, blood-splattered “Lamestain” vinyl 2xLP.

North American headlining tour October 11th-November 6th with support from Hardly Art’s Girl Friday.
Last month,Marika Hackman invited her fans to share stories of any time they have felt shame associated with female self-pleasure. Marika has used their stories to prompt a conversation around the taboo topic, which she has explored further in this thoughtful, and often humorous new video for “hand solo.”
“hand solo” extols the virtues of masturbation and features Marika’s favorite line: “Under patriarchal law, I’m going to die a virgin.” The impossible-to-ignore video for “hand solo” has been directed by Sam Bailey who Marika collaborated with previously on the UK Music Video Awards-winning video for‘My Lover Cindy’. The pair worked closely with Evie Fehilly - a sex educator who runs sex-positive workshops in London at the female-focused sex shop SH!
Marika discussing the video: “I wrote ‘hand solo’ as a bit of light-hearted relief, a wank anthem for women everywhere. I loved the idea of playing on old wives’ tales about the dangers of masturbation and pushing the boundaries about what is socially acceptable. I met Sam and we came up with this playful, tongue-in-cheek idea about hands all over the world masturbating on everyday objects, and even places, and eventually the world. The hands were directed by the wonderful Evie Fehilly, a sex educator who runs sex-positive workshops in London at the famous sex shop SH!. Despite the video being quite fun, I wanted to make a serious point at the end, after the world explodes in its orgasm, that masturbation is still for many women perceived as something shameful and embarrassing - the moment of shame after the ecstasy. We asked for any female-identifying people to anonymously submit their experiences of shame relating to masturbation, and we received so many heart-breaking and heavy stories. I hope that when people see these accounts, they can relate and realize that there’s no shame in masturbation.”
Marika Hackman’s new album Any Human Friend is out now on Sub Pop in North and South America and the rest of the world via AMF Records. The album was co-produced by David Wrench (Frank Ocean, The xx, Let’s Eat Grandma) and Marika herself, and shows off a sharper and more liberated sound than ever before.
