Father John Misty to Release Fifth Album Chloë and the Next 20th Century on April 8th, 2022; Watch “Funny Girl” Official Video

Father John Misty returns with Chloë and the Next 20th Century, his fifth long-player and first new material since the release of God’s Favorite Customer in 2018.  Watch the official video for “Funny Girl,” the album’s first offering, directed by Nicholas Ashe Bateman.
 
Chloë and the Next 20th Century was written and recorded August through December 2020 and features arrangements by Drew Erickson.
 
The album sees Tillman and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson resume their longtime collaboration, as well as Dave Cerminara’s return as engineer and mixer. Basic tracks were recorded at Wilson’s Five Star Studios with strings, brass, and woodwinds recorded at United Recordings in a session featuring Dan Higgins and Wayne Bergeron, among others. 
 
Chloë and The Next 20th Century includes the singles “Funny Girl,” “Q4,” “Goodbye Mr. Blue,” and “Kiss Me (I Loved You),” and will be available April 8th, 2022 worldwide from Sub Pop and in Europe from Bella Union.

Father John Misty and his band have also scheduled two symphony performances for 2022: February 25th in Los Angeles at Walt Disney Concert Hall with the LA Phil, and April 7th in London at the Barbican with Britten Sinfonia conducted by Jules Buckley. Tickets for these shows will be on sale Friday, January 7th, 2022 at 10 am (local).

Father John Misty announces free, two-night stand with the LA Phil at The Ford in Los Angeles on September 22nd and 23rd, 2021

Father John Misty returns to the stage for a free, two-night stand with the LA Phil on Wednesday, September 22nd, and Thursday, September 23rd, 2021. The shows will take place at the intimate 1,050 capacity outdoor amphitheatre The Ford in Los Angeles, California. These very special engagements will be Father John Misty’s first live appearances since 2019.

  • Registration ends September 5th at 10pm PST

  • Eligible ticket registrants will be selected at random and notified via email between September 14th and September 17th to claim tickets

Father John Misty has released four widely acclaimed albums – Fear Fun (2012), I Love You, Honeybear (2015), Pure Comedy, his Grammy-nominated album (2017), God’s Favorite Customer (2018), and most recently, “To S.” b/w “To R.” the double A-side contribution to Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 5.

Father John Misty recently released Off-Key In Hamburg, his first live album in March of 2020, and Anthem +3, a collection of covers of songs by Leonard Cohen, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, and Link Wray released in July of 2020. Combined, Off-Key In Hamburg and Anthem +3 raised over $150,000 for multiple causes including The Recording Academy’s MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, CARE Action and Ground Game LA.

Father John Misty’s “To S.” b/w “To R.” is the singer’s double A-side contribution to Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 5, and his first new, original, studio material since his acclaimed 4th album, 2018’s God’s Favorite Customer. These gorgeous, meticulously rendered tunes were recorded at Fivestar Studios and Funky Monkey Soundhaus NoHo in Los Angeles, produced by Dave Cerminara and The Haxan Cloak, mixed by Cerminara, and mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering.
 
“To S.” and “To R.” follows Father John Misty’s Off-Key In Hamburg, his first live album, released in March of 2020, and Anthem +3, a collection of covers of songs by Leonard Cohen, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, and Link Wray was released July 2020. Combined, Off-Key In Hamburg and Anthem +3 raised over $100,000 for multiple causes including The Recording Academy’s MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund, CARE Action and Ground Game LA. Moor Mother’s contribution to the Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 5 is Forever Industriestwo phenomenal, atmospheric tracks of jazz-tinged experimental hip-hop recorded in early 2020. The songs speak about the temporal domain known as the future, making space, outer space, and industry. The A side is produced by Olof Melander, and the B side is produced by frequent Moor Mother collaborator Mental Jewelry; both tracks were recorded by Moor Mother in her home studio in North Philadelphia.
 
Moor Mother – aka Camae Ayewa – is a touring musician, poet, and visual artist based in Philadelphia. Over the past four years, Moor Mother released two acclaimed albums, 2016’s Fetish Bones, and 2019’s powerhouse of liberation-minded punk/hip-hop/electronic energy, Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes. Moor Mother has toured throughout the world and performed live with Nicole Mitchell, Art Ensemble of Chicago, The Bug, and Justin Broadrick, to name a few. As a visual and soundscape artist, her work has been presented at The Kitchen NYC, Metropolitan Museum of Art Chicago, Guggenheim, and the Hirshhorn Gallery. She is the co-founder of Rockers! Philly, an event series and festival focused on marginalized artists, and Black Quantum Futurism Collective, a literary and artistic collaboration with Rasheedah Phillips. In addition to her solo work as Moor Mother, Ayewa is a vocalist and collaborator in Irreversible Entanglements, 700 Bliss (with DJ Haram), Art Ensemble of Chicago, and Moor/Jewelry (with Mental Jewelry).

Father John Misty’s ‘Anthem +3’ Covers EP is now available in all DSPs. All proceeds raised to benefit CARE Action and Ground Game LA

Father John Misty’s Anthem +3 is a digital EP featuring covers of Leonard Cohen, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, and Link Wray, that is now available in all DSPs through Sub Pop, with the exception of Europe through Bella Union. Hear here.
 
Anthem was recorded a few weeks ago with longtime collaborator and producer Jonathan Wilson at Wilson’s Fivestar Studios in Topanga, California.

The additional three covers were recorded over the past few years by Wilson (“One of Us Cannot Be Wrong,” “Trouble”), and Haxan Cloak (“Fallin’ Rain”) and have all been previously released.
 
Proceeds from Anthem +3 will benefit both CARE Action and Ground Game LA.
 
CARE is a leading international humanitarian organization fighting global poverty that places special focus on working alongside poor women who, equipped with the proper resources, can assist whole families and entire communities escape poverty through improved basic education, prevention of the spread of HIV, increased access to clean water and sanitation, expanded economic opportunities and the protection of natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters and helps people rebuild their lives.
 
Ground Game LA is a community-driven organization dedicated to building power for the residents of LA. Since 2017 Ground Game LA has been connecting with Angelenos about housing, immigration, civic participation, homelessness, criminal justice reform, militarization, and more. Whether through coalition building, issue campaign organizing or knocking on doors, Ground Game LA empowers residents to actively shape the Los Angeles they want to see.
 
Father John Misty released the live album Off-Key in Hamburg in March on Bandcamp to benefit the MusiCares Covid-19 Fund which has generated over $80,000 in support. Off-Key in Hamburg is now available on all DSP platforms.

On Friday, June 3rd, (aka Bandcamp Friday) Sub Pop & Hardly Art artists past and present – Jon Benjamin, Father John Misty, Frankie Cosmos (as Franz Charcoal), Gazebos, The Gotobeds, Man Man, Omni, METZ, and Versing – will be offering a variety of special releases, sales, and deals through Bandcamp’s “No Revenue Share Day.” Sub Pop and Hardly Art will be passing through 100% of digital sales revenue on Bandcamp to all of our active artists.

METZ Live at Ramsgate Music Hall – a 4-song digital EP featuring live versions of METZ’s “Cellophane,” “Acetate,” “Nervous System,” and “Raw Materials” recorded during the band’s date at the UK venue on May 3rd, 2018. Father John Misty releases live album ‘Off-Key in Hamburg,’ available now through Bandcamp, benefitting MusiCares’ COVID-19 Fund

Father John Misty’s live album Off-Key in Hamburg is now available via Bandcamp.  All proceeds from the album will be donated to MusiCares COVID-19 Relief FundOff-Key in Hamburg was recorded live at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie on August 8, 2019 with his long-time touring band, and the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt.
 
The Recording Academy’s MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund will provide assistance to those in the music industry affected by the coronavirus outbreak and subsequent cancellation of multiple music events. From hotel and bar gigs to major music festivals, COVID-19 is deeply impacting live music events, and the creative community behind it all. Administered through MusiCares, the COVID-19 Fund will be used to directly support those in the music community with the greatest need. MusiCares was established by the Recording Academy to safeguard the health and well-being of all music people - offering confidential preventive, recovery, and emergency programs to address financial, medical, and personal health issues.
