Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s Acclaimed First Release ‘Talk Tight’ Will Be Out On Vinyl For The First Time On August 25th

Talk Tight is Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s first release, which originally came out on CD in March of 2016 on Ivy League Records in the band’s home country of Australia. This is the first time Talk Tight will been available in the US, and the first time it is available on vinyl anywhere

Pre-order now to reserve that mint-green Loser Edition vinyl while supplies last at megamart.subpop.com. In Australia? Order from the band right here], and our European friends should try retailers such as Rough Trade, Resident Music or Piccadilly Records.

One might consider Talk Tight a mini-album, or extended EP, if you will. Whatever you call it, this thing garnered the band critical acclaim in their home country and in the US, where Pitchfork gave the record an 8.0 (!) and described it like so:

“Seven rip-roaring tracks that move by their own logic, any one of which could be a single and all of which leave you wanting more in the best way possible… Listening to these seven tunes, you can easily trace a national lineage: the relentlessness of Radio Birdman, the pop literacy of the Go-Betweens, the rambunctious energy of the Easybeats, and the belief—shared with Courtney Barnett—that guitars are not just crucial to the message but might very well be the message themselves.”

The band released their Sub Pop debut, The French Press EP, in March of 2017, and they are currently working on their first full-length album.

AUS and European tour dates + ticket links can be found right over here.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Share New Video for “Sick Bug” off ‘The French Press’ EP

New Tour Dates On The Books As Well.

Watch the “Sick Bug” video here.

Today, Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever share their new video for “Sick Bug,” a stand-out from their freshly released Sub Pop debut, ”The French Press” EP. The Joe White-sung rocker, with its effortlessly infectious guitar riff, seems on its surface to be fairly straightforward in theme, but there is tectonic movement beneath the song’s accessible sheen. White explains: ”I was reading Richard Flanagan’s Narrow Road To The Deep North and the horror of their situation stayed with me for a long time. I wrote this about how desperately someone could want the simplest of things. The triviality of us dancing around on a tennis court is fully realized.” The video was premiered earlier today on The FADER.

The band also recently came off of a successful run of shows at SXSW, with even Jon Pareles of The New York Times naming Rolling Blackouts C.F. as one of 12 notable acts to come out of the festival. The band continues their tour of Australia and head to Europe in September, highlighted by two sold out shows in London. (Dates and links are below.)

“A three-guitar front line — plucked, sustained and most often busily strummed — gives this Australian band its brisk pacing. Topped with semi-spoken, Dylan-tinged vocals and lyrics that switch between candor and drollery, its music is like folk-rock wrapped around a post-punk armature.” - The New York Times

“The French Press” EP is available on vinyl, CD and of course digitally from Sub Pop via this here link, and in the bins of finer record stores the world over.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Announce Debut EP (out March 10), Share Title Track “French Press” + US Tour Dates

We couldn’t be prouder to announce that Melbourne’s own Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s Sub Pop debut EP, ‘The French Press” will be out on March 10th. Now have a listen to title track, “French Press” while you check out their newly announced tour dates - they’re coming to the US too! (see dates below).

In case you missed it, watch their brilliantly infectious video for “Julie’s Place” right here.

“The French Press” EP levels up on everything that made their debut EP, “Talk Tight,” such an immediate draw. Multi-tracked melodies which curl around one another, charging drums and addictive bass lines converge to give each track its driving momentum. Honed through their live shows, this relentless energy carries the record through new chapters in the band’s Australian storybook.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s songs have always had all the page-turning qualities of a good yarn and “The French Press” EP is no different. Somewhere between impressionists and fabulists, lyricists Fran Keaney, Tom Russo and Joe White often start with something rooted in real life – the melancholy of travel on ‘French Press’, having a hopeless crush on ‘Julie’s Place’ – before building them into clever, quick vignettes. The result is lines blurred between fiction and reality – vibrant stories which get closer at a particular truth than either could alone.

Blending critical insight and literate love songs, “The French Press” EP cements Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever as one of Australia’s smartest working bands.

“The French Press” EP will be available on vinyl, CD and of course digitally. Preorder is on now via this here link.

Watch: Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Share New Video For “Julie’s Place” Off Their Upcoming Sub Pop Debut

Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever just shared their cheeky new video for ”Julie’s Place,” the first single off their forthcoming EP (and Sub Pop debut), which we here at Sub Pop are stoked to release later this Spring.

True story: After the band spent their video budget on an idea that didn’t work out ($$¯\_(ツ)_/¯$$), they decided to film singer/guitarist Fran Keaney mowing his lawn on a Saturday morning. This simple idea actually ended up being much more in the band’s utilitarian style. So in a sense, out of defeat of an excess of options came a lean opportunity to do something more truthful.

“Julie’s Place” levels up on everything that made Talk Tight such an immediate draw. It’s about being young and dumb but full of bravado. Sprinting guitars mimic singer Keaney’s pangs of heartache, his awkwardly sensual lyrics calling to mind the chaos and confusion of being around someone you can’t get off your mind.
