Watch Loma’s new, official video for “Going Out” available worldwide now on all DSPs from Sub Pop

Loma has delivered a bright new video for their performance of “Going Out,” a cover of Danish pop artist Dinner’s 2014 single. The visual, directed by and starring Loma’s Emily Cross, follows the singer on a gorgeous sunny day throughout the woods and meadows of southern coastal England, where going out is a new—and slightly nervous—prospect.

Loma’s Dan Duszynski says of the song, “Songs are like cats—sometimes they just pick you. Emily and I first heard “Going Out” while we were playing at a record store in Austin a few years ago. I went to the counter to ask who it was, and the album (Dinner’s Three EPs) is still in rotation at our home/studio. We couldn’t resist making our own version because it always cheers us up.  Who doesn’t need that right now?”

Loma’s Don’t Shy Away, the group’s incredible and absorbing album from 2020, is available now on CD/LP/CS/DL worldwide through Sub Pop. The eleven-track effort, which features lyric videos for “Homing” and “Ocotillo” and official videos for “Half Silences,” “Don’t Shy Away,” “I Fix My Gaze,” and “Elliptical Days,” was produced and recorded by the band at Dandysounds in Dripping Strings, Texas—except for “Homing,” which was produced by Brian Eno.

Don’t Shy Away saw praise from international outlets like MOJOUncutBBC 6 MusicPitchfork, Rolling Stone, StereogumExclaimBandcampBrooklyn VeganUnder the RadarSydney Morning HeraldThe Line of Best FitRecord CollectorAll MusicDustedOur Culture, and more. Loma is currently at work on the follow-up to Don‘t Shy Away.

What people are saying about Loma’s Don’t Shy Away:
“Loma’s music unspools in vivid panoramas - sometimes downbeat and rainy, sometimes splashy and urgent, reminiscent of the mid-‘90s school of Bowery Electric post-rock. Yet the trio ensure all the glitches and layers (clarinet, brass, guitar) add bright pin-sharp accents not blurry textural flab, Cross’s voice glinting through ‘Blue Rainbow’s’ electro-cabaret judder or the Morphine-like rumble of ‘Ocotillo’.” ★★★★ MOJO

Don’t Shy Away is a stronger, fully realized collection than its predecessor, kicking off with the absorbing opening trio — “I Fix My Gaze,” “Ocotillo,” and “Half Silences,” each elevated by singer Emily Cross’ bewitching vocals — and never letting up from there.” [“The Best Albums of October 2020”] - Rolling Stone

“…Don’t Shy Away is an invitation. It honors the sacred space of uncertainty, acknowledging lingering darkness while trusting in the possibility that brighter, more brilliant worlds lie within reach.” - Pitchfork

“Atmospheric melodies…Cross’ otherworldly vocals blend to absorbing effect.” [8/10] -
Uncut

Don’t Shy Away is ultimately as gratifying as it is ambitious. Brian Eno was right: Loma are the real deal.” [8/10] -  Exclaim!

“For listeners who have a penchant for darker, glossier rock in the vein of Portishead, Jane Weaver, or even Radiohead, this is an essential listen.”  [8/10] - The Line Of Best Fit

Don’t Shy Away is an absolutely beautiful record – hypnotic, haunting, mysterious and comforting”  -  Brooklyn Vegan

“Fans longing for the return of Portishead will find solace in the grey-skied gloom of songs like “Thorn”, “Half Silences” or the pulsing “Given A Sign.” This is contrasted with the brightness shining through the stately instrumentation of “Elliptical Days” or the cycling synths of “Breaking Waves Like A Stone,” swelling in size towards its triumphant conclusion.”  [“Album of the Day”] - Bandcamp

To anyone enamored with the effortless elegance of Loma’s debut, some of Don’t Shy Away’s more adventurous and synth-heavy production may feel a little jarring. However, surrender to the album’s luscious sound design, emotive vocal performances and smart narrative arc and it can be just as intoxicating. As far as front-to-back album listening experiences go, it’s among the year’s best.” - Dusted

“Gorgeous, otherworldly music” [“Elliptical Days”] - Stereogum

“Don’t Shy Away is a spectacular album, a vivid record, which gently deals with the themes of loneliness, temporariness and finding light in absolute darkness.” - Music Letter

“Bigger in scope than the three piece’s self titled debut, Don’t Shy Away is on a whole other sonic level. It encourages us to not just exist in the spaces that we inhabit, but to find every possibility they could offer. As second records go, they don’t come much more mesmerically splendorous than this.”- Secret Meeting

“All in all, Don’t Shy Away is gracefully immersive, aesthetically ambitious and more than worth a listen.” - MXDWN

“There’s healthy disarray, there’s beauty, and there’s real poignant sadness but most of all there’s true humanity.” [8.5/10] - Still Listening

“Unfurling with a patient and solitary kind of splendour, their music is evocative but never perfunctory, brimming with textures that are vaporous yet vividly drawn. Don’t Shy Away distils those elements that were present in their debut to a more refined form, resulting in their most mesmerizing and rewarding effort yet.” ★★★★ - Our Culture

“In sound and narrative, indie supergroup Loma deliver an intelligent and emotive piece of post-modern cinema on their superb sophomore album, Don’t Shy Away.” - The Revue

The beautiful new video for Low’s “Disappearing” from director Dorian Wood is out now from HEY WHAT, the new Low album, is out September 10, 2021, worldwide on Sub Pop

HEY WHAT, the astonishing new Low album, will be released worldwide on September 10th, 2021 on Sub Pop Records. On the heels of their latest single,  “Days Like These”the group has shared a breathtaking video for their song “Disappearing.” Multi-disciplinary artist Dorian Wood directed the group’s new video, and had this to say about making the video, “I am incredibly thrilled to have created this video for Low. I’ve been such a fan for years. I was inspired to offer a personal glimpse of what I’d been up to during the pandemic year. I’ve been doing art modeling on the side for years, mostly for art schools. Once the schools physically shut down due to Covid, I was invited to pose for dozens of virtual classes. I borrowed a friend’s empty guest room and twice a week I would set up my laptop and lights and pose for three hours at a time. During these long stretches of time, I’d lose myself in thought while delivering poses that best showcased all this fat brown beauty. In my mind, I traveled to places and memories, and in the case of “Disappearing”, I not only visited the ocean in my mind, I became it. Even at its most empowering and meditative, a modeling session was often a reminder of how lonely one can feel when the other humans in the room immediately vanish once the laptop shuts down. And still, a semblance of hope always lingered. We shot the video at Human Resources, a performance space in L.A. which also served as a creative sanctuary for me during the pandemic year. There’s a lot of ‘coming home’ love in this video. I’m honored to be able to share this love.”

Low have announced two album release shows on September 10th and 11th at Square Lake, outside the Twin Cities in their home state of Minnesota. The group has invited a diverse group of artists to join them including Joe Rainey Sr.Gaelynn Lea, and Lord Friday the 13th. Shannon Lay shares the official video for “Awaken and Allow” and “Geist” from Geist, her forthcoming album, out October 8th worldwide on Sub Pop

On the heels of her previously released single, “Rare to Wake,” Shannon Lay shares the official double video for the gorgeous singles “Awaken and Allow “ and “Geist,” from her forthcoming record Geist, which will be available worldwide on October 8th from Sub Pop Records.

Watch the new video for “Awaken and Allow “ and “Geist” now, which was directed by Kai MacKnight. Lay says of the singles “Awaken and Allow” is a prayer and a promise.  A quiet moment to reflect on transformation and what it means to me.  California represents my comfort zone and in this song, I am urging myself and everyone listening to move out of their comfort zone in order to push ourselves to grow and evolve.  We are all in a constant state of change and the way we can learn to move and flow with that change completely elevates our experience with it.  The most amazing thing we can do for ourselves is recognize where and how we are standing in our own way and move aside.  “Awaken and Allow” your greatness to emerge.

“Geist” is a testament to the power we all have within.  We are so much more amazing than we know ourselves to be.  With this video, I really wanted to acknowledge some of the incredible people who make shows possible.  We filmed at Zebulon in Los Angeles; a venue that has brought so much to the community here and I am so happy they have survived this uncertain time.  There is so much going on behind the scenes to create the amazing memories we all have of live music and every part of that took a hit with the pandemic.  With all we have been through it has been awe-inspiring to see the strength of the human spirit.  Let us move forward with kindness and love toward ourselves and others.  Let us see the beauty and wonder in the lives we get to live and appreciate every moment of it.”

Lay has confirmed a handful of live performances this fall in support of Geist. These include appearances at this year’s Huichica Festival in Sonoma, California on October 16th and 17th, and NYC-area shows on October 19th at TV Eye in Brooklyn, and October 20th at the Mercury Lounge in Manhattan. More shows to be announced soon.

Fri. Oct 8 - Long Beach, CA - Living Room Show
Thurs. Oct 15 - Sonoma, CA - HUICHICA Festival
Fri. Oct 16 - Sonoma, CA - HUICHICA Festival
Tue. Oct. 19 - Brooklyn, NY - TV Eye
Wed. Oct. 20 - New York, NY - Mercury Lounge

Geist feels like a window - or a mirror - into possibilities of the self and beyond. Lay’s new album is tender intensity, placeless and ethereal.  It exists in the chasms of the present – a world populated by shadow selves, spiritual awakenings, déjà vu, and past lives.

“Something sleeps inside us,” Lay insists on the opening track, and that’s the guiding philosophy throughout. A winding, golden, delicate thread of intuition that explores the unknown, the possibility. Its title, Geist, the German word for spirit, is rife with an otherworldly presence, the suggestion of another. The promise that you are never alone.

Lay tracked vocals and guitar at Jarvis Tavinere of Woods’s studio, then sent the songs out to multi-instrumentalists Ben Boye (Bonnie Prince Billy, Ty Segall) in Los Angeles and Devin Hoff (Sharon Van Etten, Cibo Matto) in New York; trusting their musical instincts and intuition. She then sent those recordings to Sofia Arreguin (Wand) and Aaron Otheim (Heatwarmer, Mega Bog) for additional keys, while Ty Segall contributed a guitar solo on “Shores.”

As a whole, Geist is both esoteric and accessible. There’s the concise, pared-back cover of Syd Barrett’s tilt-a-whirl-esque “Late Night,” while “Rare to Wake,” inspired by Dune, is existential and meditative, a circular guitar riff looping at the core of it.  “Awaken and Allow,” is ancient-feeling and mainly a cappella, its melody channels her deep Irish roots, a moment of reflection, before a drop happens – its intensity mirroring the anticipation and anxiety that come with taking the first step to accepting change for yourself.

“Time’s Arrow,” with its refrain of heading downhill, was inspired by something a close friend said. Lay notes: “I wanted ‘Time’s Arrow’ to be this gentle reminder that we’re on our way, and we’re moving forward.  There is medicine in every moment so don’t rush.”

“Thread to Find,” which Lay wrote after walking into an old hotel in Switzerland and being struck by the feeling like she’d been there before, is a testament to the energy we leave behind and stumble across.

And the title track “Geist,” a song about the power living in all of us, is a love song to the possibility of healing, an ode to falling into the arms of what you’re becoming. It’s a glimpse into the parts of yourself you have yet to meet. But you can, if you want to.

Geist is now available for preorder on CD/LP/CS/DSPs from Sub Pop. LP preorders from megamart.subpop.comselect independent retailers in North America will receive the limited Loser edition clear with orange and green hi-melt vinyl (while supplies last). Iron & Wine Return To The Road This November and Gets Back To The Basics!

Iron & Wine is excited to announce his return to the stage with a back-to-basics tour of intimate venues that brings him across the Midwest and the Northeast starting this November. Ready to engage with fans once again, these solo acoustic shows follow-up Sam Beam’s recent release of Tallahassee, his critically acclaimed, lost-in-time collection of recordings.

As the touring world began to switch its lights on, Beam was thinking of ways to head back out on the road. He factored in as well the expectation of what fans might want to see and hear after so much turmoil and it became clear that a simple return to roots was the answer. This fall, Beam will load up a van with a handful of acoustic guitars, dust off his trusty songbook and offer up some well needed comfort food in the way of the Iron & Wine catalog each night. These shows will take place in some of the smallest and most intimate venues Beam has played in over fifteen years. And while loads of bands are serving the big markets, Iron & Wine will be taking to the back roads of the Midwest and Northeast to bring its gospel to the heartland.

Predating his debut album, The Creek Drank the Cradle, his latest release, Tallahassee, garnered excellent review from critics. Pitchfork raved “… throughout Tallahassee, Beam demonstrates a knack for devastating succinctness […] understanding how to settle into a song and simply let it breathe on its own,” while Uncut noted, “The songs, while still lo-fi, ring out clearer and more confidently than the bedroom recordings of Beam’s debut proper: six-minute opener ‘Why Hate Winter’ stands among his most gorgeous and evocative work.”

Beam has recognized over the years how much these early recordings, many of which were bootlegged, have meant to long-time fans and Tallahassee is yet another way of thanking them for still being on this crazy journey.

A fan presale for the “Back to Basics” Tour begins Wednesday, July 14th at 10 am EST with passcode backtobasics. Tickets are on sale to the general public Friday, July 16th at 10am EST. Support for all dates by Squirrel Flower.
